KEY INFORMATION
The Parents form an integral part of the life of The Firs School and very much a part of our whole school community.
We welcome parent volunteers into the school and have a number of events over the course of the year that we invite parents to attend, and we have an open-door policy and teachers are always available at drop off and pick up to discuss quick issues or to make an appointment with for a later time.
Furthermore, we hold a weekly parent cafe and also have an active parents group who enjoy organising a number of events over the year.
Parent Cafe
Parent cafe runs every Friday morning, in the Heywood Room or in the summer months the school field, immediately after drop off. It provides the opportunity for parents to meet informally over coffee and sample chef’s delicious cake. A great start to the day!
We hope this comprehensive booklet of information will be useful to you. It covers everything from the first day at school and the house system, to class representatives and uniform lists. Click above to view, download or print.
Catering
All our food is prepared on-site in a large purpose-built kitchen with a team of experienced and well-trained catering staff. Our chef ensures we offer high-quality and balanced menus with a commitment to providing great locally sourced fresh food. Each day children receive a playtime snack and a two-course lunchtime meal. In addition to this our salad bar, offering a wide selection of fresh fruit and vegetables is available every day for children to help themselves to.
View our current menu below.
At the Firs School Chester, we pride ourself on offering children healthy home cooked delicious meals prepared by our very own Chef James onsite. We are also able to incorporate the pupils' own home grown produce thanks to the school’s fruit trees and vegetable patch.
As part of the school’s aim to inspire children to be healthy the children are also encouraged to run or walk a mile before school every Wednesday morning. The weekly pre-school exercise is enjoyed by the majority of children and has become a new healthy habit.
Headteacher Mr David Girvan comments “We are very proud that we offer our pupils delicious home made meals and snacks made by our wonderful in-house catering team. Establishing healthy eating and lifestyle habits is very important and we pride ourselves on inspiring the children to adopt a lifetime of healthy habits.”
School Uniform Shop
The Firs School Uniform Shop is run by our volunteer parents who are available to give advice regarding all school uniform inquiries.
The shop is situated within the school grounds and holds all the school uniform items which are available for sizing.
Items can then be ordered online in the shop via the school uniform supplier, Uniformity, or at your leisure at home.
Ordered items can then be collected from school or picked up from Uniformity directly.
The school uniform shop is open: Monday 8:30 am – 9:00 am and Thursday 3.00 pm – 3.45 pm
If you wish to make an appointment outside of the above times, you are more than welcome to do so by contacting j.longman@firsschool.org
The school uniform lists are available to view within the Parent Handbook.
PLEASE NOTE: We also have a thriving trade in “Nearly New” items, the proceeds from which go to support our school charity “Christ For All in Andhra Pradesh” (Azairah). These can be purchased directly from the school shop.
School Transport
The school owns and operates its own minibus and currently runs a regular pick-up and drop-off service into the Wirral. The route travels from Heswall, Willaston, Capenhurst, Saughall, and Chester and can be found in the parent handbook. The bus is driven by members of staff who hold professional driving qualifications (which allows them to drive for commercial transport organisations). Please note this is a higher level of qualification than many school minibus drivers who drive under an exemption.
Firs Parent Group (FPG)
The FPG plays a pivotal role in the life of The Firs School. We organise coffee mornings, fairs and events that raise money for equipment and experiences that further enhance our children’s education. We also raise money for a number of different charities over the course of the year.
All parents are welcome to join the FPG and attend any of the events and meetings held. The FPG aims to be an inclusive network for Firs families, creating a strong community, to support one another. We are always looking for volunteers for our events, so if you can’t make meetings or the coffee mornings but could offer an hour or so of your time as we run and prepare for the events we will always be extremely grateful.
We have charitable status and are registered with easyfundraising.org.uk the UK's biggest charity shopping site.
