Sport is an important part of life at The Firs, specialist sports coaches and the use of on site and off site facilities enable us to provide a full range of activities.
We ensure that all children have the opportunity to take part, and our teams take great pride in regularly competing against other schools and participating successfully in local, regional and national competitions, including regular ISA tournaments.
All children at The Firs are given the opportunity through PE lessons and our after school program, to develop their skills, physical fitness, team work and sense of fair play through a broad range of sports. Within the school grounds the children have ample room to take part in a range of sporting activities and practice their skills on the school playing field, all weather netball court, climbing wall, infant and junior adventure playgrounds. Being so close to Chester we also have a wide range of facilities available on our doorstep and we utilise these to ensure we provide our children with the best sporting opportunities.
Reception and Year 1 enjoy weekly swimming lessons all year round. Year 2 will have lessons for two terms and all other students for one term. The program is run by Becky Adlington’s Swim stars based at Total Fitness.
We are continuing our affiliation with Beth Tweddle’s Total Gymnastics and this year the children in Year 2, Year 3, Year 4 and Year 5 will also receive a term of lessons as part of our PE provision.
The Firs prides itself on its sporting achievements and teams. We have been awarded the Sainsbury’s Gold Sports mark award. Sainsbury’s sport mark criteria
