Special video to celebrate LAMDA Results
Though the past year has been hugely challenging for children, Speech and Drama lesson have continued at The Firs School, as we appreciate, and value the importance of rediscovering the joy of imagination and creativity, whilst building self-confidence.
The Firs were delighted to host the LAMDA exams in the safety of the school before the last lock down. The pupils from The Firs School took their LAMDA speech and drama examinations under the tuition of their speech and drama teacher Mrs Hamer who provides weekly Speech and Drama lessons. We are very proud to say we had a 100 % pass rate with 16 pupils entering the exam and 14 pupils passing with a Distinction, the highest result you can gain.
The Firs School has its own private LAMDA centre for examinations to take place annually, our strong relationship with LAMDA enabled us to continue to give an examination opportunity to all pupils who attend Speech and Drama lessons during the pandemic. The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art examination board is internationally acclaimed, it forms one of the largest Theatre Schools in London, and it is recognised for not only Acting but also Musical Theatre and Public Speaking. At Grade 6 the children’s LAMDA examination results are transferable to UCAS university points, already we have children who have taken and passed Grade 2 with distinction.
The children who entered the LAMDA examination worked hard at selecting and preparing verse speaking and prose extracts to perform for their examination. The children also researched the authors of their given text for a discussion about their chosen selection. This encouraged and introduced the children to enjoy new literature as well as teaching the children good technique and skills for public speaking, the children all received written feedback and a certificate from the examination. The examination was a wonderful experience enjoyed by all.
