Our Reception children enjoyed a wonderful day out last week to the Burton Mere Nature Reserve. We travelled on our new minibus which was certainly an exciting start to their day.
The day began with an introduction from a volunteer called Megan. She told us where we could spot things and said if we were really lucky we might spot some lizards on the fences! The children wanted to know more about bluebells as there were lots at the reserve. Did you know you can be fined up to £5000 if you pick bluebells as they are protected?
We used binoculars to look across the wetlands and we could see gulls, geese and avocets. It was very noisy as there were so many!
We looked in the ponds, through the rushes and in the bird hides to spot all sorts of birds, insects and plants but sadly no lizards came out.
Finally, before we got onto the bus we went on a bug hunt. We all had a great time, lots of walking and enjoying of the beautiful countryside!
