At the Firs we ensure we provide experiences to support the curriculum and to enrich and enhance children’s learning beyond the classroom. Throughout the year we visit a range of places including galleries, theatres, outdoor centres, Chester zoo, farms, museums and castles.

Residential Trip

From Year 4 onwards children go on an annual residential trip, these are something that the children keenly look forward to. These trips give the children opportunities interact with their peers in a different environment and further cement their relationships outside of school. Children also gain self confidence and independence and learn to appreciate the countryside and outdoor opportunities. The educational trips in Year 4 and 6 enable the children to safely explore a range of challenging activities, often learning new skills and leaves them with a great sense of achievement.

  • Year 4 visit Robinwood – Dobroyd Castle is a 19th century mansion set high up on the Todmorden moors enjoying some fantastic views of the surrounding area. With facilities for Archery, Climbing, Caving, Piranha Pool, Dungeon of Doom, Quest, Trapeze and Team Challenge. Activities within the grounds include Zip Wire, Giant Swing, Obstacle Course, Night Line and Problem Solving. A purpose built lake within the grounds is the perfect location for canoeing and raft building in shallow, sheltered water.
  • Year 5 visit Vindolanda – Hadrians Wall and Vindolanda museum.
  • Year 6 visit Rhoscolyn – A four day, 3 night trip to Outdoor Alternative, in Anglesey. Coasteering, Climbing, Abseiling, Rock Pooling, Tyrolean, Team building, Walking along the coastal path.
