Y5 Take Part in Lantern Parade Raising Awareness of Refugees
Year 5 were recently privileged enough to take part in a lantern parade through the streets of Chester which was part of the ‘Walk my Journey’ project. The project was designed to give awareness to children across the city of the plight of refugees. The class, along with 700 children from Chester schools have spent the last term rehearsing songs, learning about refugees and even participated in the filming a short film. As a culmination of this project the class carried lanterns through the city centre to replicate the long journey of refugees fleeing war and coming to the UK. The film, was then shown to a large crowd outside the Cathedral before Chester proudly received the official title of ‘City of Sanctuary’.
