Firs Parent Group

The FPG plays a pivotal role in the life of The Firs School. We organise coffee mornings, fairs and events that raise money for equipment and experiences that further enhance our children;s education. We also raise money for a number of different charities over the course of the year.

All parents are welcome to join the FPG and attend any of the events and meetings held. The FPG aims to be an inclusive network for Firs families creating a strong community to support one another. We are always looking for volunteers for our events so if you can’t make meetings or the coffee mornings but could offer an hour or so of your time as we run and prepare for the events we will always be extremely grateful.

We have charitable status and are registered with You can now register on and any on line shopping will make donation to the FPG – it’s really money for nothing. Look in “support a cause” we are The Firs School Chester, there’s over 2,700 retailers.

The Firs Parent Group Autumn 2017 Newsletter

Welcome back to a new school year and a very warm welcome to any new parents who have just joined.  The Firs Parent Group plays a pivotal role in the life of The Firs School.  We organise coffee mornings, fairs and events which raise money for equipment and experiences that enhance the children’s education.  We also raise money for local and national charities.

We welcome new parents into the FPG community and help provide a support network for Firs families.  The Firs Parent Group includes all of us, we can all help provide an inclusive community which helps support each other.

A look back at 2016 – 2017 school year and some of the many events we held…

In November 2016 we held our first major event in the new school hall.  The Sparkle Ball was a huge success, not only did we have a fantastic evening we managed to raise an incredible £6200.

We had a very busy Christmas fair with a visit from Father Christmas and a wonderful performance from the school choir.  As well as FPG stalls we had external market stalls and we raised £1615.

Christmas Cards and our popular school calendar raised £715.  We also launched our first Parents Vs Teachers quiz night which was a huge success.  This event was not a fundraiser just a great way for parents to socialise, it was a lot of fun and we will definitely be holding another in the Spring term.

We had sunny weather for our Summer Fete and it attracted many new people from the local community as well as Firs parents.  It was a wonderful day of celebrating all things ‘Firs’ with some amazing performances from the children.  We raised £2538.

What a fantastic year in which we raised in excess of £11,000, which is an incredible total.  We would like to thank everyone involved in all these events. This money has now been donated to school and as agreed in September 2016 by the FPG all money raised in the school year 2016-17 would go towards the school’s new all weather pitch which I am sure you will all agree has transformed the life of the school and the children who are able to play on it all year round.

Our fundraising efforts this coming year will go towards new outdoor equipment for the children. The school will be developing their outdoor areas; clearing the woodland area to create a space for outdoor learning, den building, forest school activities and nature exploration.  The school is also developing the area next to the Fir Cones (nursery and kindergarten) building where they are creating an area for play, exploration and gardening. Part of this area will incorporate the new Firs School pets which will be guinea pigs.  The annual pantomime treat the FPG provide for the children will also take place this term.

Firs School CookBook

In June we created our very own Firs School Cookbook, we had an amazing response from families, children, teachers and even the school chef.  We collected 62 recipes and produced a high quality book.  We haven’t sold very many though.  If you submitted a recipe please don’t forget to pick up your copy from the school office or school uniform shop for £8.50.  Even if you haven’t entered a recipe you can still buy one, they are great to encourage children to start cooking.  The cookbook includes starters, main meals and desserts including some of your childrens favourite school dinners by Chef James.  Buy yours today!!

Parent Cafe

We hold a Parent Cafe every Wednesday morning and every first Friday in the month, both from 8:30am in the Heywood room which is located in the main part of the school.  Everyone is welcome.  There are toys for toddlers, homemade cakes,

plenty of room for pushchairs and lots of friendly faces.  Please do pop in and say hello, it’s a great way to meet other parents.

Class Representatives & WhatsApp Groups

We have FPG Class Representatives for each year group whose role is to ensure communication between the FPG and parents.  Class reps form an important part of our FPG community network, organising socials, raffle donations, teacher presents and parent helpers.

Most of you will be familiar with the phone messaging app Whatsapp.   Last year we created a WhatsApp group for each class.  They have proved really popular and everyone is welcome to join their class group.  You don’t have to be in a group, many parents aren’t and we email all important information out too. It’s very useful for helping each other out with lost jumpers, homework and socials.

Class reps and their emails follow, please get in touch with yours, share your details as well as ask to be added to your classes WhatsApp group. We are looking for a class rep for the Fir Cones Nursery class. Please do get in touch if you are interested.
