We've just heard that we are one of the 6 finalists for the Neuro Muscular Centre primary school choir competition! Listen out on Friday morning on Dee 106.3 to find out which school has won!
Today at The Firs we celebrated remembrance day by planting crocus bulbs for spring! After a minutes silence at 11am all the children planted a bulb and hopefully this spring the corner of the field will be awash with colour!
The Firs Chamber Choir has entered for this years Cheshire schools Christmas Choir competition organised by the NeuroMuscular centre with support from Dawsons music and Dee 106.3. The winners get to sing at the spirit of Christmas event at the Cathedral on the 3rd of December and win music equipment for their school. The finalists will be announced on Dee 106.3 on Monday. Keep your fingers crossed!
Well done to the members of our Chess club that competed at the annual Cheshire and North Wales open championship at the Kings School on October 8th. Rohan Y of Y6 won all 6 of his matches and was awarded the cup as the best primary school player in the region. The other members did well too. Please find the Autumn term overview for each year group at termly planning so you can see what your child will be studying. This information has normally been provided at parents evenings and other informal ways but we thought it would be interesting for parents to get the overview.
On Thursday, 13th October, Year 3 visited the Outdoor Centre at Burwardsley to find out about life as an Iron Age Celt. The day began with the opportunity to handle a collection of Celtic artefacts. This was followed by a visit to a reconstructed Celtic roundhouse, where the children looked at some wall paintings and found out about the materials used in its construction.

On Thursday, 29th September, Mr Bhandari came to talk to year 6 about Kenya because we are learning about this fascinating country in geography and that is where he was born. The 21st century parent course continues this Friday with the 2nd talk "The gift of acceptance". We've put it back to 9.30am in order for you to have a coffee and cake and perhaps pick up some uniform in the hall before hand. Each talk on DVD is no longer than 15mins and then we have a chat about our own experiences. The course notes are now available here if you want to see what is being covered.
Make a commentA group of Year 3 children took part in the Young Writers creative writing competition earlier this year. They had to write a mini saga in exactly 50 words. The stories had to have a proper beginning, middle and ending and were judged on the quality of their content, use of imagination, perception, expression and creative use of language; a real challenge with a limit of only 50 words!
The winning stories will be published in a book entitled, Mini Sagas-Amazing ...

Rohan Y has competed in his first badminton tournament on 1st October 2011 after playing for two weeks and won a runner up prize for doubles. He came 3rd in the singles with some very very close games. Rohan was very happy with his effort and was glad to come back with an unexpected trophy.
