Visit to Robinwood |
In April this year, for the second time, the children
of year four spent three action-packed days and two restful nights
at Robinwood Activity Centre near Alston in Cumbria. Once again
an exciting and amazing time was had by all, pupils and staff
alike.

The fun begins immediately on arrival with an expedition walk
to the centre when we get to know our group leaders whilst the
luggage arrives by minibus. After a picnic lunch the walk continues
to the centre where we deposit our luggage, pack our kit bags
and leap (often literally!) into the first of many activities.

This year, for example, we leapt onto a trapeze
from a tiny platform at the top of a tall tree, learnt to paddle
our own canoes (and jump up and down in them), screamed as we
flew down the zipwire, found our way along the blindfold obstacle
course, covered ourselves (literally and deliberately) in mud
for the survival expedition, solved problems by learning to work
as a team, crawled through tunnels in the caving system, scaled
the climbing wall (and abseiled back down again) and braved the
terrifying dangers of the piranha pool and still had time and
energy for eating terrific meals and discovering new and surprising
qualities in ourselves and our companions (incuding the ability
to make our own beds). We even had good weather but, as they now
have three yurts for activities and assembling, it wouldn't really
have mattered anyway...

...And if you're wondering whether it's worthwhile or whether
we really loved it, just ask us if we'd like to go again. Sorry,
only the staff get that chance, but they take no persuading!
