We really enjoyed our trip to Abbey Gate College on Monday 6th November where we enjoyed fielding our U11 and U9 football teams and also our netball team. Please read our match reports below.
U11 Football Match Report – by Callum W
In the first half, Abbey Gate scored early and played the better football. At half time, we had a quick team talk and we were raring to go in the second half. The Firs started the second half much better than how they played in the first. Jake scored a good goal, going in off the post to make the scores 1-1. Unfortunately, Abbey Gate scored another goal, meaning we were behind with about 10 minutes left to play.
The Firs were awarded a free kick just outside the area after a player was fouled. Connor stepped up to take it and curled it over the wall to go in off the crossbar – making it 2-2.
It was very tense last few minutes, with both sides having chances. Paris made some superb saves, especially as their corner taker was very good. In injury time though, Abbey Gate had a throw in, it was intercepted by Sam, who played Connor in for a one on one with the goalkeeper. Connor then finished it giving The Firs the lead.
The team was, myself as captain, Finn, Sam E, Connor, Iggy, Alexander, Paris, Ben, Robert, Jake and John. Well done to all who played!
U9 Football Match Report
by Evan C-H
The U9 match was fiercely competitive! It was a hard game, with both teams having plenty of chances to score – but we never gave up! The Firs went 1-0 up after 5 minutes through Freddie’s goal. Both teams had lots of chances before the break, but The Firs’ narrow lead was still intact at halftime.
After the halftime break, The Firs started really well scoring two quick goals, again Freddie applying the finishing touch to both, giving him the hattrick. Between the two second half goals though, Abbey Gate were able to pull one back, making it 3-1 and a short while later, 3-2.
With pressure building, The Firs knew that they wanted another goal to keep hold of the win. Harry provided another good goal to make it 4-2 to The Firs. Towards the end of the game, Abbey Gate scored a superb goal, meaning the game ended 4-3 to The Firs.
The team was, myself, Freddie, Harry, Beau, Will W, Will S-W, Ewan, Frankie, Ollie, Oz and William M. Thank you to Mrs. Davies for managing the team.
