Dear Parents
Welcome back! I hope that you had a restful half term. I was pleased that the snow (which is becoming a feature of our returns to school!) went as quickly as it came.
Thank you for the magnificent fund raising effort for the NSPCC, the final total was £2519.97. The money will be used to support children and their families.
Congratulations to our Year 6 pupils who have done outstandingly well in their entrance exams for senior school, gaining places at Abbey Gate College, The Grange, The Hammond, King’s School, Packwood Haugh and Queen’s School. Special congratulations to Katie Merrick who has been offered a tennis scholarship at Ellesmere. Our candidates who took the Wirral grammar school exams have to wait a little longer for their results.
On the sporting front Tag Rugby club is back! The club is for Juniors this half term but will be offered to Infants in the summer term. Our netball squad has been in action already playing against Abbey Gate (in the snow!). In a nail biting finish Abbey Gate scored in the final minute to win the match 7-6!
Handball club has replaced hockey this half term and as we are currently the Chester and district handball champions we are looking forward to defending our title in the months ahead!
Thank you also to everyone who donated their small change to the Haiti appeal. We raised approximately £240 which has been donated to Merlin a group which Dr Syed, one of our Year 2 parents, is part of and works to provide medical help in crisis areas and rebuild shattered medical services. Junior children learned about Haiti and the work of the Merlin team during a talk by Dr Syed.
Year 4 are extending their scientific knowledge with a visit to the Salt Museum in Northwich, whilst Year 6 are learning more about the Holocaust by visiting the Anne Frank exhibition at Chester Cathedral.
Finally we welcomed our inspection team back to school this week, and I am sure that you will be pleased when you receive the report, which is likely to be after Easter.
Yours sincerely
Mrs M Denton
