Maths Challenge Day at Ruthin School

Maths Challenge Day at Ruthin School

maths challenge

On Friday 27th April 2018,  Children from The Firs School travelled to Ruthin School to compete in a set of maths challenges along with many other schools. Ruby, Imogen, Rory, Oliver, Freddie and Connie had to work in groups of 3 with two working on maths questions together and one on their own. Each team had a sixth form pupil with them showing them what to do but they were not allowed to help. There were 3 challenges set. The first was a race against the clock to answer mental maths questions in their group. They were given a score after each round.

The second challenge was an orienteering challenge where the groups along with their sixth former had to find clues around the school grounds and answer all the questions.
The final round was a maths relay. The children had to work in their groups and once they had answered the question they had to sprint with it and give it to their sixth former. They had 2 chances to answer it correctly or it was marked as 0 points.
Congratulations to Imogen, Connie and Freddie came second overall.
